In the big country in the west there is much talk about "cord cutters" – and something similar seems to be happening in Sweden. To pay good money for a television subscription is not as attractive when much of what we are looking at today simplest streamed from the network.
Apple TV in the current generation was released in 2015, and was a major update compared to previous models. Apple TV generation 4 was launched with the words "the future of television is apps," and indeed gave many the opportunity to be cord cutters – to "cut the TV cable" and rely entirely on streaming services.
But here a year and a half after the release of Apple TV 4, it is clear that there was a huge success for Apple TV . Apple's solution for the living room did not manage to shake up the television market in the same way as iTunes and the App Store completely changed the way we consume music and apps.
Still just a hobby, right?
How long will the Apple TV as a hobby project? It was so Steve Jobs talked about it when it was first shown in 2006. Now, more than ten years later, it still feels like Apple's TV plans are a bit half-hearted. Although the Apple TV hardware is of an okay gadget, we lack substantial good services to it.
When the iPad was first released it had receive some criticism for simply being "a bigger iPod Touch." Somewhat similarly experienced Apple TV as a bloated Case for the living room. The first thing I face when I launch Apple TV is fully threaded apps feels a bit like a stopgap measure. Of course, should be the first thing I see to be my personal content – my TV series, my favorite programs, my game – when I turn on the Apple TV for relaxation. Not a bunch of app icons.
