Modern mobile phones have almost always a built-in FM tuner, but it is not all that activates it. Apple, for instance, never used it, which in the beginning was something many complained.
Nowadays it is not something we hear about often, but in an appearance at the North American Broadcasters Association said new Federal Communication Commission chairman Ajit Pai that he would ensure that all manufacturers will activate it.
Pai mean among otherwise the FM radio is an issue of public safety in emergency situations. At the same time, he does not force any manufacturer, so it is uncertain whether it is a warning to Apple and other manufacturers that do not activate fm circuits today.
Apple has previously enabled FM receiver in the iPod Nano, where the headphone cord used as the antenna. Now that the company is moving towards a completely wireless future is the probability that it voluntarily activate the receiver probably close to zero.
