Talking to someone wearing headphones Apple Earpods the ride or who just happen to be outdoors is not always the best of experiences. Sus, noise and other distractions are not nice to Earpods microphone. This is why the Swedish invention Xpuff there.
Xpuff is a simple little gadget mounted on the remote control for your existing Earpods. The plastic cover is completely free of electronics, and includes really just a piece of foam rubber through which the annoying hustle and wind noise from the outside world filtered. So this is really no technologically advanced thing, but acts as a common windshield of a pickup.
Because there is no technology on the inside, it is a very light, small plastic cover. It weighs a few grams, and it is fortunate, because otherwise there is the risk that weigh down the cord and headphones then slips out of his ears. Now we find no such tendencies.
The plastic is flexible enough that we will easily be able to control the remote control buttons through the place. On Xpuff is plus, minus and a check mark to indicate where to touch.
How well does it
So, do Xpuff a difference? Will even the windiest of phone calls tolerable? The creators behind Xpuff sounded Technical Research puff test, which saw a 35 percent reduction in wind noise at a wind speed of 2 m / s, and a reduction of 69-76 percent at 4-12 m / s wind speed. A bike ride uphill battle thus becomes a little less difficult for the person you're talking to.
We have not made the same conclusion wind tunnel studies, but we've called a bunch of calls (many of them outdoors) and had us Xpuff everyday. And of course we also notice a difference. All annoying sounds do not disappear, but it decreases significantly, and even the worst noise that may occur will be bearable.
Not even when we (just to test) blowing into the microphone, it becomes unbearable to listen to, the difference is large compared to a "naked" Earpod. To have a conversation outdoors is easier even when the wind blows just a little. The voice drowned in the noise did not, and do not push the sound is muffled.
Equally important, we think is how we experience better sound quality even at quite ordinary, wind-free calls. Puff reduces noise that may occur when the remote is pulled towards the jacket, and scraping sounds and blow against the microphone is almost entirely eliminated. The sounds are almost as annoying as wind noise, so it's very nice to get rid of them.
Two wishes for a better product
We have only two wishes for a better product, and it's a little clearer, more tactile signs to mark where volume controls. A slightly better fit would also be good, in our copy arose a millimeter-thin gap between the two plastic parts at the top of Xpuff.
