Amazon is about to roll out an update to its iOS app with support for using voice-activated assistant Alexa without having to buy the company Echo speakers or another independent Alexa product.
Alexa is a digital assistant like Siri, Cortana and Google assistant. In addition to adding new calendar events, check the weather and the like can order stuff from Amazon, and control some IoT products. It can also control the playback of music from Amazon Music Unlimited or Prime.
Alexa is currently only available in English and German, and requires so clear an Amazon account. In Sweden there are now Amazon Prime Video, but it is uncertain if this means that Alexa will work with the app you can download from the Swedish App Store.
If you want to test, you can probably create an account in the US store and get the app from there, as well as a US Amazon account to sign in.
Alexa support has begun to appear in some users, and will be rolled out in the coming week, writes 9 to 5 Mac.
