Future models of the iPhone and iPad will no longer use GPUs from Imagination Technologies and instead develop their own. How far advanced the plans are unknown, but the Telegraph has discovered that Apple has posted job listings for 11 new posts in London related to GPU development.
The services marked a "engineering program manager" who will lead a "newly formed graphic development team" working with "the definition, specification, design and verification of graphics chips from concept to silicon." Other services are "design verification lead", "graphics content engineer", "Emulation Engineer" and "Design Verification Engineer".
Apple, according Imagination phase out its graphics chips within 15-24 months, but now doubt Apple will manage to develop custom circuits without infringing on its patents.
